Briar Rose is a June 2007 registered and branded Oldenburg NA filly.  She is by the Oldenburg Stallion Weltstern out of the Thoroughbred mare Misslorette.  For a full pedigree, click  here.  Rose should mature about 16.2.  Both parents are 16.2 and her legs are currently the same length as her dam's.  Rose looks like a thoroughbred with warmblood bone.  She has longevity and soundness in her favor.  Her dam raced 38 times and at age 15 is perfectly sound.  Her sire is currently 27 years old and still sound and breeding mares live cover!  Rose has nice straight legs, very correct balance and conformation and lovely swinging gaits.  Her inspector's comments were that "she stands very well on her legs".  This must be a translation of some German expression that doesn't convey in English as well as it should, but I can see what he means.  In fact, I just found a picture of Rose when she was less than 24 hours old and her legs are perfectly straight!

I think Rose will make an excellent eventer, and would be fun to show in the FEH and YEH classes.  Between 5-18 months old, she was very gawky, all legs and neck.  But she has filled out beautifully now and I think would clean up in breeding classes.  Her name fits her.  Most of the time she is a sweet filly and easy to work with.  Every once in a while she gets a wild hair and gets a bit rambunctious.  It is this spark that I think will make her a really competitive horse.  I have 2 young children who named her.  In case you don't have little girls, Briar Rose is the name that Sleeping Beauty goes by in the movie.

With Rose's classic good looks and correct hunter movement, she would also make a very nice hunter. She would also do well in dressage.  I used to think she did not have the extravagant movement that she would need in FEI dressage, but after watching her on a windy day, now I'm not so sure!  If I could just get that on video....
